“Our goal is to have the best possible medicine – next-generation medicine – for the residents of Virginia and people around the globe. We’re building a world-class facility that will compete with anybody … in terms of research, manufacturing, and treatment.”
Paul Manning

Our Values and Vision

The Paul and Diane Manning Institute of Biotechnology will catalyze innovation and stimulate collaboration throughout the state by bringing together world class researchers in biotechnology who will bring life-changing and life-saving treatments to those who need them the most.

The University of Virginia's Manning Institute of Biotechnology will play a broad role in the Commonwealth of Virginia through clinical trials with researchers in the UVA School of Medicine and UVA Health, and a manufacturing center. Bioinnovation is advancing at a rate never seen before. It’s estimated that the doubling time for new knowledge in the field of medicine is 2.5 months. So approximately 73 days from today, we will know twice as much as we do today about medicine. Biotechnology will change how healthcare is delivered and the outcomes for our patients.

Centered on the research, development, commercialization, and manufacturing of new cellular, gene, and immunotherapies. We will foster an environment that inspires, supports excellence, and promotes discoveries and innovative healthcare solutions that move from the bench to the bedside as quickly as possible.
